Back to where We started

Shannon and I are moving back to the town we met it, Garden City. :) Most of you know already, and in case you don't, I took a job at GCCC as a full-time mathematics teacher starting this fall. :D

24 weeks and 3 days

I'm just past half way with the pregnancy and I'm already missing my old clothes. I have so many t-shirts that I just love! And I can't really wear them now... or at least they don't look the same.

More than that, I miss my corduroy pants. None of them fit me any more and I'm really tempted to take an old pair and turn them into maternity pants. We'll see how ambitious I feel.

In other news, teaching is going well. It's always nice to come home from the money-earning and be in a good mood with happy things to say about what I did. It's great to feel reward from your job.

Oh, I also finished my Prime Number quilt for Etsy! Now I just patiently wait for someone to buy it (please!).

Do you like your job?

I've been wondering about this recently. Do people like their job, or do they just do their job because they need to pay for things?

Then I got to thinking that well, is it even worth liking your job? If I didn't like my job, would that just be me being selfish? Or is it actually a valid desire to like the job you do?

The conclusion I came to is that you should like your job. If you don't, then there are over 40 hours a week that you are unhappy. Which just makes the rest of the 128 hours recoup time. But if you take out 8 hours of sleep each night (which I approximately get), then I have 72 hours of recoup time. Not long enough.

However, I do enjoy teaching at TCC! Even on days when I don't feel like going, I come home glad I taught and in a good mood. That is probably the way it should be. :)

It's a lot of slide but it is really awesome. I absolutely love the ideas and the environment they seek to create. If only more companies would be like this.

Interveiwed

This weekend we played some hockey. I got damaged on the nose. I'm not really sure how. I have a full cage on my helmet...but it happened. I would show you a picture, but I look rather foolish in the ones I have, and really, it isn't anything impressive.


After St. Louis, I stayed the night in Kansas City for a Monday of interviews with Hallmark. The company paid for me to stay in 21st floor room at the Hyatt. This is the view of Kansas City from my room that night.

The interviews went fine. If you want to know about them, then give me a call and I'll chat it up with you. But I don't feel the need to give detail of my 7 hours of interviews here on my blog. I'm not that good at telling stories.

Now its just time to wait for the offers to start rolling in. And offers there will be!! We hope to hear from Hallmark in Kansas City, a software company in Tulsa, and/or the Stat Department here in Manhattan.

Effective Collections

This morning I went to a seminar presented at Manhattan Medical Associates office on Effective Collections. The company presenting was Account Recovery Specialists Inc., and the presenters were Sally and my mom!! Mom gives lots of seminars for ARSI, I've never had the chance to go. But giving one in the town I live in on a day that I didn't have anything else to do, it was the perfect time.

I'm glad I went to. It was a short seminar, only about 1 hour and 20 minutes, where they are usually 2 and a half hours long. But it was still interesting. Since I don't know, mm...basically anything about what she does, it was neat to listen to some really basic info.

One thing I did learn about is PIP. I'm sure some of you may know more, but PIP insurance is personal injury protection insurance. And if you are an insured Kansas driver, you have it. Not all states have it, but here in KS, it applies to any no-fault motor vehicle accident. It will pay for up to 4500$ in medical expenses. Crazy. I'm sure there's way more to it, but still, I didn't know about it.

I learned other things too, and I'm glad I went. As for the Hallmark interview. I studied for no reason. The closest thing I got was, "What's your favorite statistical method?" It was good though. We'll see. If they call back and offer a day of interviews then I'll go and we'll just see what comes of it all.

Tomorrow I have a telephone interview with Hallmark. I am studying for it now. Eee.
